Main Task- Font/Credits

After looking at fonts and semiotics from movie posters, we decided to look online for an appropriate styled font for our own title.  We went onto www.dafont.com and selected four fonts that we particularly liked.

28 DAYS LATER

This font is the same font used in the film, 28 Days Later. This film is a horror thriller that follows a handful of survivors as an incurable virus sweeps across the UK and turns people into mutant/zombies. We liked this font because apart from loving the film, we like the way the font isn’t completely filled in. It contains white lines inside the lettering taking the appearance of scratches or blood. We liked the idea that the letters are very bold and capitalised giving a warning/danger feel from it at the same time as providing a more sinister and distorted tone to it. We believe this would coincide nicely with a psychological theme.

DEEP WOODS INITIALS

This font stood out to us because of its theme. Our thriller opening will be set in the woods/forest location and so we could see this as a worthy contender for our choice in font. The branches and foliage effect surrounding and coming out of the letters makes it look like they are overgrown. This font doesn’t really have any scary or spooky connotations which are to some extent what we would like to use in the final product.

TRUE LIES

This was attractive to us because of its italic-like slant. This gives a dynamic feel to the font and like the 28 Days Later font, also has the appearance of scratches. The slick, dynamic look to the font is important because our thriller opening will contain many moving scenes.  This would therefore link in well with it and would be a signifier to the audience of the themes and convention that have been used.

CF ONE TWO TREES

In conclusion, we have chosen to use the CF One Two Trees font. This font visually links in with our location showing the bare branches of trees to form the lettering and the consistency of the lettering, ie. the squiggly, scratches give the font a more sinister feel which is exactly what we were looking for.
