RESULTS OF INTERVIEWS:
The dictionary definition of a Thriller film is a film that uses suspense, tension and excitement as the main elements. As seen in the video, the interviewees defined this correctly which leads us to assume that they have had experiences with Thriller films in the past and can identify one when they see it.
- Favourite Thriller films included films such as Jaws, Se7en and Unbreakable.
Interestingly, these films were released in 1975, 1995 and 2000. Seeing as the interviewees weren't even born when Jaws and Se7en were released and only 3 or 4 when Unbreakable was, it is surprising that these are mentioned. However, these are 3 incredibly famous Thriller titles and are highly rated amongst film enthusiasts as well as casual film-goers.
- Favourite Directors included Martin Scorsese, Guy Ritchie, Steven Spielberg and Quentin Tarantino.
All of these directors are renowned for their own distinct directing and film making techniques, especially in their Thriller films. The fact that these names have been stated as favourite directors implies that Thriller films are popular with the age range. Quentin Tarantino is well known for his stylistic use of mix-and-match genre with graphical violence taking a main, notable theme in his works. Guy Ritchie's films tend to have action fuelled by guns and super slow motion scenes etc.
- The interviewees mostly see films through the media platforms of dvd, the internet and the cinema.
As predicted, nobody said rental or TV. However, none of the interviewees said through websites or apps such as Netflix or LoveFilm. We thought this would be a popular choice as it would be cheaper than watching films in the cinema. Also, our target audience are likely to be students and not have full time jobs.
- Fast paced scenes, plot twists and entertaining endings were found to be the most appealing elements of a Thriller.
This is good audience feedback and we hope to convert these appealing elements into reality in our Thriller opening.
